Jim Murphy (born 23 August 1967) is a politician in the United Kingdom. He is Labour member of Parliament for Renfrewshire East, Scotland, south of Glasgow, and is a government whip. He has been an MP since 1997, and was previously a president of the National Union of Students.
Jim is also a fan of Celtic Football Club, and was married at Parkhead, where he is in regular attendance. He also maintains close links with Labour Students, who he reportedly donates a sum to every year. His election campaigns usually find a large number of Blairite students on the stump on his behalf.
Murphy was recently (2005) re-elected.
