Jim Davis (born October 11 1957), American politician, has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997, representing the 11th District of Florida (map (http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/images/preview/congdist/fl11_109.gif)). He was born in Tampa, Florida, graduated from Jesuit High School of Tampa, was educated at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and at the University of Florida, and was a lawyer and a member of the Florida House of Representatives, as well as Majority Leader of the Florida House, before entering the U.S. House of Representatives. He was re-elected in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004, the last three times without Republican opposition. In the 2004 election, he was challenged by Libertarian candidate Bob Johnson, a computer programmer, and Socialist Workers Party candidate Karl Butts, a farmer. Davis won 85% of the vote, compared to 14% for Johnson and less than 1% for Butts.
Davis recently announced his candidacy for Governor of Florida in 2006 and is considered a favorite, as his centrist positions are similar to successful Democratic candidates of the past, such as Lawton Chiles and Bob Graham. [1] (http://news.tbo.com/news/MGBKZTR3U1E.html)
