Isla Nublar
|
Isla Nublar is a fictional island on which dinosaurs were held in the novel Jurassic Park. It is comprised of volcanic rocks, which provide geothermal power to the Park systems. The climate is tropical, with dense jungles and a river running across the island to the East coast. The island is described in the novels as being tear drop shaped, thicker at the north than at the south (maps shown on Jurassic Park merchandise vary). The word nublar in Spanish means "to become cloudy".
A second island called Isla Sorna (also known as Site B) was used as the setting for The Lost World (both the novel and film) and also for Jurassic Park III. Both islands are located in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 120 miles from the coast of Costa Rica.
