Inner Sunset
|
The Inner Sunset contains the northeastern portion of San Francisco's Sunset District. It was where the district first developed, and is the location of the prominent University of California, San Francisco and as a result has a slightly different character from the Outer Sunset. It is now a popular evening destination, primarily due to a diverse mix of resturants along 9th Avenue and Irving Street (the intersection of which is the focal point of the neighborhood). The fortunes of the neighborhood have only risen in the last decade, however. Prior to the late 90's, smaller service businesses such as laundromats and grocery stores dominated the Sunset's commercial character; while this still remains true to a point in the Outer Sunset, a more gentrified and popular neighborhood character has risen in parts of the Inner Sunset.
