Indrajit
|
A mythical character from the Indian epic Ramayana. Indrajit was the son of the Ravana, King of Lanka (now Sri Lanka), and Mandodri, daughter of King Maya. He was married to Sulochana (Prameela), daughter of the Nagas. Indrajit at birth was named Meghnad because when he cried for the first time, lightning and thunder striked, signifying the birth of a great warrior. His name Indrajit was granted to him by Lord Brahma when he captured Indra, the King of devas and had made him a prisoner.
All the warriors on Ravana's side were conditioanally unbeatables.
During the great war between Ram and Ravana, Indrajit was sent to war due to his extraordinary skills. Tired by the revival of the enemies, he started the Nikumbala Tantrik Yagna, which was a yagna that would grant an invincible chariot and a weapon called Bramhasir.
It was destined according to Lord Brahma, that anyone who attacks him during this ritual, shall kill him and thus Lakshmana took that opportunity and killed him.
