The Australian ship was participating in a Multilateral Undersea Warfare (USW) exercise conducted in the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/ Commander Fifth Fleet area of responsibility. The exercise's objective is to promote Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) interoperability between the US, coalition, and multinational forces operating in the region.
