Id Kah Mosque
|
The Id Kah mosque is a mosque located in Kashgar, Xinjiang, in the western People's Republic of China.
The mosque was built by Shakesimirzha in 1422 (although it included older structures dating back to the 8th century) and covers 16,800 square meters. The mosque was built in 996.
It was at the center of a sharp rise in tension between the Muslim Uyghurs and the ruling Han Chinese in Xinjiang in 2003, when the government decided to replace it with a motorway and a shopping mall.
