Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara (May 9, 1949 - April 9, 1999) was a military officer in the West African country of Niger who overthrew the government of President Mahamane Ousmane on January 27, 1996.
He was elected president on July 7-8, 1996, taking 52% of the vote in a contest widely viewed as fraudulent, and was sworn in on August 7. On April 9, 1999, he was assassinated during a coup d'etat by soldiers at the airport in the capital city of Niamey. He was 49 years old.
