In medicine, hypertension is abnormally high blood pressure. Types of hypertension include:
- arterial hypertension - with an elevated blood pressure in the systemic circulation
- pregnancy-induced hypertension is newly diagnosed arterial hypertension in pregnant women. It requires close monitoring
- pulmonary hypertension - with an elevated blood pressure in the pulmonary circulation
- portal hypertension with an elevated blood pressure in the portal vein or portocaval system
