Honolulu Season (The Real World)
|
The Honolulu Season of The Real World first aired on MTV in 1999. In the eighth edition of the popular reality series, seven strangers were chosen to live in a modern beach house in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Cast
The seven strangers were:
- Amaya
- Colin
- Margaret (nicknamed Kaia)
- Justin
- Tecumseh (nicknamed Teck)
- Ruthie
- Matt
Plot
In the first episode of the series, housemate Ruthie lost consciousness after she consumed too much alcohol. The paramedics were called, as Matt and Amaya did not know if Ruthie was dying.
Most of the season dealt with Ruthie's problem with alcohol. Around the middle of the season, the housemates voted to take Ruthie to rehab for a few episodes. Ruthie insisted that if she did have a problem, it stemmed from not having parents when she was growing up. The housemates insisted that she go, or they would have her ejected from the show entirely.
Justin, the sarcastic, gay housemate, didn't seem to fit in with the others, especially more popular housemates Amaya and Colin, who started a relationship. Justin, in mischievous style, tried to put the kibosh on the pairing (most notably during the season trip on the Orient Express). However, after the trip, he ended up quietly leaving the house. Partly, this was due to his frustration with the other houseguests, but also because he had a family emergency at home.
The housemates were nude so much that MTV had to add to the budget to handle the additional pixilation.
Job
The seven housemates worked at the Honolulu Location of Local Motion, a clothing and surf apparel store. They were responsible for booking in-store entertainment under a company they christened "7 Strangers Productions."
