Homotherium is a prehistoric cat genus that lived approximately 3 million to 10,000 years ago in North America, Eurasia and Africa.
The best known species of Homotherium is Homotherium serum, commonly known as the scimitar cat. It had saberteeth shorter than those of the sabertooth cat, but unlike the sabertooth cat's teeth, the scimitar cat's were serrated on both sides. It was about the height of a modern lion and was built to run fast; possibly as fast as 96 km/h (60 miles/h).
