Historical myths
|
Historical myths may be myths that rely on the rhetorical devices of history, or history that functions as myth. The relationship between history and myth is complicated because they rely on different criteria: history purports to be an accurate account of events, while myth purports to provide moral education. Many myths take the form of historical accounts, and many historical accounts are propagated because of their mythic function.
