Henrique Mecking

Henrique Mecking (born 23 January 1952) was a leading Brazilian chess master in the 1970s. After years of retirement due to illness, he returned to chess in 1991. His biggest rating was 2635 points, achieved in 1977, when he was rated as the 3rd best player of that year, behind Anatoli Karpov and Viktor Korchnoi. He was the 1st Brazilian to reach the rank of International Grandmaster and is considered as possibly the best south-American player ever.
