Heaving line bend
Tying steps:
- Form a bight by doubling the end of the hawser.
- Lay the working end of the lighter line over the bight.
- Lead the working end around the standing part of the bight from front to back, and bring it over its own standing part to complete one turn.
- Lead the working end beneath the short end of the bight, bringing it around and tucking it into the turn.
- Tighten the knot by pulling on the standing parts.
Tying tip:
Once tied, turn the knot over to prevent the hawser from catching on projections.
