Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen
|
Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen is a book by Her Majesty, Queen Lili‘uokalani, the last reigning monarch of Hawai‘i. In it, she gives her account of her upbringing, her ascension to the throne, the overthrow of her government by pro-American forces, her arrest and trial, and her appeals to the American government to restore the autonomy of Hawai‘i. These appeals were ultimately unheeded; instead, in 1898, the same year the book was published, the United States Congress formally annexed the Hawaiian Islands.
