Hacker con is a term for a hacker convention. Hacker cons among other services serve as meeting places for phreakers and hackers. The biggest such United States convention is DEF CON.
Hackers on Planet Earth (also known as H.O.P.E.) is another well-known conference, held by 2600: The Hacker Quarterly.
The first modern hacker con (meaning the first hacker con which invited hackers, computer security professionals, law enforcement agencies, and journalists to all openly participate) was HoHoCon.
