Guarujá is a municipality in the São Paulo state of Brazil. The population in 2003 is 281,634, the population density is 1,969.47/km² and the area is 143 km² This place name comes from the Tupi language. The population are urbanized.
Guarujá is located in the Santo Amaro island. Its main economic activity is tourism, because of its oft-frequented beaches. The city is also home to a Dow Chemical Company unit, which produces fertilizers and oher chemical items.
Guarujá has a borough called Vicente de Carvalho, in homage to the Parnassianist poet (see Parnassian).
