Guarapari

Guarapari is a coastal town on the coast of Espírito Santo, Brazil. Capital of its municipality, it is located 47km south of Vitória, the capital of the state. It is a well-known tourist destination, known for its curative black sand beaches which are even commercially exploited. With a heavily built-up coastline like Vila Velha and Vitória, it caters heavily to seasonal tourists, and consequently has quite a dramatic seasonal population fluctuation in the capital.
The municipality has had European presence since 1585 when Jesuit missionaries built a small chapel and well.
Within the municipality one may find the nature reserve of Setiba, which is still a pristine example of coastal ecosystem and important for local turtle and bird populations.
