Grand canne
|
French for "large stick," grand baton is a European fencing system that uses an approximately 4-foot-long staff. Grand canne shares many mechanics with longsword and quarterstaff. The origins of this system have been lost to antiquity but probably share a common root with other European stick fighting systems such as quarterstaff, German stockfechten, etc.
La Grand Baton was systematized in France during the 1800s and is still part of a set of skills associated with the modern French martial art/combat sport of la Boxe Francais/Savate
