The small mountain village of Gimmelwald in the Bernese Oberland is halfway up a mountain between Stechelberg and Muerren. The Schilthorn cable car stops in Gimmelwald.
In addition to a shop that sells fresh cheeses, Gimmelwald also possesses its own school, a phone booth and several cows.
The population of Gimmelwald is 130, most of whom have one of three family names; Allmen, Fuez, or Brunner. There are 150 hotel beds for tourists. 50 of these belong to the Gimmelwald Mountain Hostel.
Traffic and accessibility
Gimmelwald is reached from Stechelberg by the cable car LSMS.
Politics
Gimmelwald, together with Wengen, Muerren, Isenfluh, Stechelberg, and Lauterbrunnen, belongs to the political commune of Lauterbrunnen. The Kirchgemeinde covers the entire valley.
