Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao (1922-1974) was a singer and composer of Telugu film music. Gifted with what V.A.K.Ranga Rao called "the most majestic voice", and solid training received from sri Patraayani sitarama Saastri (aka saaluuru chinna guruvu gaaru), he helped give telugu film music a distinct character of its own - so much so, that, for nearly half a century, his was the voice of telugu films.
As a freedom fighter he was jailed for two years in Alipore. He served as the aasthana gaayaka(court musician) of TTD.
