Germany Must Perish!
|
Germany Must Perish! is the title of a book (or more accurately a pamphlet) written by Theodore N. Kaufman. The second edition was published in 1941; the date and contents of the first are unknown. It advocated the annihilation of the entire German people by forced sterilization after an Allied victory in World War II.
At this time, America had not yet entered the war, and stories of genocide by the Nazi Party were neither widely known nor believed.
It has been widely quoted as advocating genocide against the German people. Kaufman was born in the USA and was of Jewish extraction, so his expressing such ideas has attracted far more attention than other writers of the time.
Nazi propaganda denounced the book as an "orgy of Jewish hatred" and accused President Franklin D. Roosevelt of having inspired it. When on September 8, 1941, the Jews of Hanover were forced from their homes, the Nazi authorities cited Kaufman's book as one of the reasons.
