Fred Kavli

Fred Kavli is a Norwegian-American physicist, business leader, innovator, and philanthropist. He received his physics engineering degree from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) in Trondheim.
He immigrated to the United States in 1956 to launch a business and two years later founded the Kavlico Corporation, located in Moorpark, California. Under his leadership, the company became one of the world's largest suppliers of sensors for aeronautic, automotive, and industrial applications.
Kavli has donated 100 million dollars to fund research institutions in the U.S. and the Netherlands.
Kavli intends to sponsor three new prizes for scientific achievements, starting in 2008. They will be awarded for the fields of Astrophysics, Neuroscience, and Nanotechnology.
