Fred Dagg is a fictional archetype satirist from New Zealand created and acted by John Morrison Clarke. The character is a stereotype farmer, singlet-clad, gumboot-obsessed, and Trev-attended.
The film version was Dagg Day Afternoon (1977) (Directors: John Clarke and Geoff Murphy).
One memorable expression was uttered whenever there was a knock at the door: "That'll be the door".
In the late 1970s, Clarke moved from New Zealand to Australia, and New Zealanders lost one of their favourite humorists.
He has also released an anthology album of various songs and interviews.
