Flow binding system
|
Flow binding system is a proprietary snowboard binding system, used to attach a rider's feet to the snowboard.
Flow bindings are intended to offer the levels of control available from traditional strap-in bindings, combined with the convenience of step-in binding systems.
Flow bindings have a folding high-back and a shaped material upper section. The upper section replaces the two straps used in regular step-in bindings. The user inserts the foot into the binding through the back, rather than the top, and then clips the high-back up into place. Due to this system, they can be used with regular softboots.
For many, this binding system does deliver on its promise of strap-in control mixed with step-in convenience. There are, however, a number of drawbacks:
- The bindings tend to be expensive.
- They can be difficult to set up.
- They cannot be folded flat for transport to the same degree as regular strap-ins.
- Note: newer Flow bindings can be folded as flat as regular strap-ins.
- They have a reputation for being less durable than other bindings.
- Note: Flow bindings are fixed with four straps so there is less force on each step and they break less often than straps on regular bindings.
