Five laws of library science
|
S. R. Ranganathan, considered by librarians all over India to be the father of library science, proposed five laws of library science. Most librarians accept them as the foundations of their philosophy:
These laws are:
- Books are for use.
- Every reader his or her book.
- Every book its reader.
- Save the time of the reader.
- The Library is a growing organism.
The laws have been widely quoted in the profession, and appear as widely scattered as a library wall in Jhuwani, Nepal (http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0524/p14s01-legn.html)
