Filipino is a term relating to the people of the Philippines. It originally referred to the Spanish population of the island; during the nationalizing movements and after the Spanish-American War, it came to refer to the general population, including the natives, called indios. It can mean any of the following:
- A citizen of the Philippines A female Filipino is also called a Filipina.
- The national language of the Philippines.
- Name after King Felipe II of Spain.
- A person who traces his roots to the Philippines.
