Eric Carr
|
Born Paul Caravello, Eric Carr was the drummer with KISS for more consecutive years than anyone else. His makeup design, The Fox, was KISS's back-bone and fun side through the 80's. He played drums as Peter Criss's replacement but was in the band longer than Peter originally was. Eric played with KISS 11 years till he fell ill to cancer.
Outside of KISS, Eric had several projects pending. Around 1988, he created the production company Streetgang Productions to house these projects, including Rockheads http://www.ericcarr.com/rockheads/, a proposed Saturday morning cartoon that never saw completion. He also used the company to produce a demo tape for an all-female thrash-metal band, Hari Kari.
Additionally, in 1985, Eric and fellow KISS member Bruce Kulick attempted to join Ronnie James Dio's charity project, Hear 'N' Aid; this never happened because Gene Simmons thought that any involvement by band members outside of KISS would "dilute" the band as a unit.
Eric Carr died in 1991 after a 3-month battle with brain cancer. The group's 1992 release Revenge contained what is believed to be the only drum solo Carr ever recorded with the band, titled "Carr Jam 1981". In his book KISS and Sell, author and band employee C. K. Lendt observes that any access that fans had to the band "slammed shut" after Eric's death.
