Eleonora d'Arborea
|
Eleonora d'Arborea (1347-1404), was born in Oristano from Mariano IV, judge of Arborea and Timbora De Roccaberti.
The House of Arborea, whose power extended over about one third of Sardinia, was the only independent part of the island at that point of history. During her childhood, she was raised with a natural tendency towards war and weapons. Her beauty brought her to marry Brancaleone Doria, a Genua general.
In 1383 she took power after the death of her husband's father and his brother.
She is remembered because of the writing of the Carta de Logu, the first civil code of this type in Europe, who was kept in force in Sardinia until 1827.
