ESADE

ESADE (Escuela Superior de Administración y Dirección de Empresas) is a business school in Spain, and was established in 1958 by the Jesuits (Society of Jesus). The institution comprises ESADE Business School and ESADE University, and has more than 10,000 students enrolled. It has campuses in both Barcelona and Madrid.
It is worth noting that ESADE stresses "Corporate Social Responsibility" in its literature and public statements (http://www.csrcampaign.org/publications/Excellencereport2002/Plottingacourse/XMendozaandJMLozano/). However, the institution's collaborators include Sodexho (http://www2.stignasi.es/tur/elcentro/uempresaempresascolaboradoras.htm) - a catering multinational corporation. Sodexho's US subsidiary was featured in connection with school nutrition and child obesity in the US during the recently-released film Super Size Me. Sodexho (or more properly, Sodexho Alliance) is involved in controversial commercial prison programs in the US and was the subject of a boycott in 2001 and 2002 (see campaign site (http://www.notwithourmoney.org/02_about/about.html)) by various US colleges and institutions, including Wheeling Jesuit University. The campaign was covered in The Wall Street Journal in an article dated August 29, 2002. The corporation providing caterering in ESADE itself, Aramark (number three worldwide), has been strongly criticized by the Campaign Against Prison Slavery (http://www.libcom.org/hosted/caps/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=419). Aramark is a member of the ESADE Foundation Board of Trustees.
ESADE was ranked by The Wall Street Journal as the 2nd Best Business school in Europe in 2002, and is accredited by the leading international AMBA organisation.
