E-102 Gamma is a fictional character in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe.
The first robot to be a playable character was E-102 Gamma, from the E-100 series Doctor Eggman created. His play style in Sonic Adventure is unique as it involves only shooting and reaching the target while the time dwindles down. Score depends on how long the aim button has been held down and when shot, time is added to the timer as a reward.
History
Gamma had his "brothers" dismayed, which included E-101 Beta, E-103 Delta, E-104 Epsilon, and E-105 Zeta. However, as the game progresses, he find intruiging events that turn his 'life' around, which also included the encounter with Tikal taking him to a mysterious area, Amy Rose with the Flicky bird, and Froggy. At the end of his adventure, Gamma fought the improved veversion of E-101 Beta, and eventually succeeded against his newly upgraded older brother. Following the intense fight, Gamma went over to check on the status of his brother, when Beta shot him at point blank. The last wishes of Beta were completed as Gamma and himself were destroyed, marking the completion of Gamma's "rescue" of the E-100 series
His appearance to play as one of Dr. Eggman's badniks, or "clunkers", as Sonic called him, is most intruiging with his perspective of temporary flight, and wheeled mode.
In Sonic Adventure 2 some of the robots in the pyramid levels appear to be rebuilt versions of Gamma, named "E-1000's". Also, in Sonic Battle a rebuilt version of him appears but is referred to as "E-102r Chaos Gamma" by Eggman. He is also playable in battle mode once unlocked by the player in story mode.
