DPSS laser
|
Diode Pumped Solid State (DPSS) lasers are lasers made by pumping a crystal, for example, a ruby or a neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) crystal with a laser diode, usually one that emits infrared light.
The most common DPSS laser in use is the 532nm green laser pointer. These low power"<5mW" lasers and the higher power ones use the same system. A powerfull > 200mW 808nm "infrared" laser diode that shines though a vanadate crystal ND:Y04V Yag laser crystal which lases 1064nm "very infraded laser light" which then shines through a piece of KTP cyrstal. The KTP doubles the frequency of the light which makes the wavelength goto 532nm. Of course there are mirrors at both ends and other things must align perfectly.
