Down in the Park
|
Down in the Park is an electropop single written and recorded by Gary Numan with his band Tubeway Army, and included on the 1978 album Replicas. Inspired by the dystopian science fiction tales of such writers as J.G. Ballard, the song tells the chilling story of a "Park" in which machines hunt humans for sport, to the delight of spectators who view the carnage from the nearby restaurant Zom Zom's. The song was typical of Numan's lyrical themes of the time, both embracing and fearing technology.
Cover versions of this song have been done by Foo Fighters and Marilyn Manson.
