Don Juan DeMarco

Don Juan DeMarco is a movie starring Johnny Depp as a man who believes himself to be Don Juan, the greatest lover in the world. Clad in a cape and eye-mask, he undergoes psychiatric treatment with Marlon Brando's character to cure him of his apparent disillusionment with his identity. But the psychiatric sessions have an unexpected effect on his psychiatrist, whose relationship with his wife, played by Faye Dunaway, is also affected.

This movie is a fascinating, light-hearted story about romance, starring three top-notch, risk-taking actors. The flashbacks in the film, narrated soothingly by 'Don Juan' (Johnny Depp), work effectively to add a comedic colouring to it. The well-developed mix of settings - an old cultural town versus the modern day architecture - create a feel of ambuiguity; fantasy or reality?

The plot flows nicely in the film, with rich and well-developed characters to distinguish it as an entertaining film. The movie is a simply eccentric artwork (typically a Johnny Depp choice), and displays the talent of three unique artistes.

Latina superstar Selena made a brief cameo as a Mariachi singer. After meeting her on the set, Marlon Brando remarked: "She is a very special and very beautiful girl. She has a gift."

Selena recorded a handful of songs for the movie's soundtrack, including a duet with Bryan Adams, God's Child (Baila Conmigo). Selena was shot to death on March 31, 1995, exactly one week before the movie's release on April 7, 1995.

A hit single for Bryan Adams, "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?", is the cornerstone of the soundtrack.
