The Dodge Aries was an automobile sold by the Chrysler Corporation from 1981 to 1989. It replaced the Dodge Aspen, a slow selling car due to quality control difficulties, which in turn replaced the popular Dodge Dart as Dodge's small car. The Aries was sold as the Dart in Mexico. The Aries was Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year for 1981.
The car ranked as one of Chrysler's most successful cars along with its twin model the Plymouth Reliant. Both the cars have been known as "K-Cars" because they are based on the Chrysler K platform.
The Dodge Aries was produced in Newark, Delaware, Toluca, Mexico and Detroit, Michigan. The last Dodge Aries rolled off the assembly line December 9, 1988.
The first cars got the 2.2 L Chrysler K engine standard with a Mitsubishi 2.6 L as an option. The 2.6 was replaced with a 2.5 L version of the K engine in a 1985 facelift.
