Doctorandus
|
Doctorandus (Latin: he who should become a doctor) is a dutch academic title according to the pre- bachelor-master system. The title is acquired by passing a Doctoral exam, usually after the 4th or 5th year of study at a University.
In most cases this concludes a universitary study.
Problems are usually encountered in determining the equivalency to other educational systems. It ranks somewhere between a Masters and a PhD. At best, holders can be considered at PhD-level due in part to capstone requirements of a comprehensive examination and a thesis. In comparison, some Masters degrees like an MBA may not have such.
Occasionally a student will continue to do research under the supervision of a professor, which eventually allows them to obtain the title of doctor.
