Diana DeGette (born July 29 1957), American politician, has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997, representing the 1st Congressional District of Colorado (map (http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/images/preview/congdist/co01_109.gif)). She was born in Tachikawa, Japan, was educated at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado and New York University, and was a lawyer, a Deputy State Public Defender and a member of the Colorado House of Representatives before entering the House.
In Congress, she serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee; she also serves as the co-chair of the Congressional Diabetes Caucus and the Pro-Choice caucus. She is also a member of Democratic leadership, serving as the Deputy Whip.
