David French

David French (born 1939 in Coley's Point, Newfoundland and Labrador) is a Canadian playwright who lives in Toronto, Ontario.
French's best-known and most-performed works are the five semi-autobiographical 'Mercer' plays: Salt-Water Moon; 1949; Leaving Home; Of The Fields, Lately and Soldier's Heart. These plays follow the fortunes of the fictional Mercer family in their birthplace in Coley's Point, Newfoundland, through the joining of Newfoundland to the Confederation of Canada, to the departure of the family to a new life in Toronto.
