David Bruce Haight (1906–2004) was the oldest Apostle in the history of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to which he was ordained in January 8, 1976.
David B. Haight was born in Oakley, Idaho, September 9, 1906.
He served as mayor of Palo Alto, California and president of the Church's mission in Scotland before becoming a General Authority in 1970.
At the passing of Elder Hugh B. Brown in December of 1975, the vacancy was filled by the calling of David B. Haight, set apart on January 8, 1976.
Near the end of his life, his vision impaired, he would deliver his talks in General Conference from memory. His boyish humor and endless devotion to the gospel are evidenced despite his advanced years. In one particular moving instance, he was called to the stand by President Hinckley to wave to the congregation for his last General Conference. His smile and compassion endured to the end.
He died in the morning of July 31, 2004, after having attended the funeral of his colleague Neal A. Maxwell the previous Tuesday. David A. Bednar was called to the quorum to replace him.
