Cyberdyne Systems Corporation
|
The Cyber-Dynamics Systems Corporation is a fictional company depicted in The Terminator films, as well as various novels and comic books all taking place in the Terminator universe.
Cyberdyne is responsible for the creation of a sentient supercomputer known as Skynet for the NATO Strategic Air Command-North American Aerospace Defense Command, as well as various different series' of terminators, most notably, the T-800.
Other terminator models created by Cyberdyne Systems include the T-1000, the T-850, the T-600, and the T-X, also known as the Terminatrix.
Cyberdyne's attempts to develop a sentient supercomputer (which would later become known as Skynet) were innocently arrogant. They intended the new technology to be used as automated pilots in commercial and military aircraft, among other things.
In the film, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, the corporations headquarters located in Los Angeles were destroyed by a group of terrorists (consisting of the films main characters, John Connor, future leader of the human resistance, his mother Sarah, and a T-800 series terminator.)
As a result of the destruction of Cyberdyne's headquarters the timeline in the terminator universe was altered, thus postponing Judgement Day (originally scheduled for August 29, 1997 - as mentioned several times throughout the film.)
A line from the film spoken by Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) confirms this: "...On August 29th, 1997 it's going to feel pretty fucking real to you too! Anyone not wearing two-million sunblock is going to have a real bad day, get it?"
Cyberdyne's research was succeeded by Cyber Research Systems, as depicted in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, thus leading to the creation of Skynet, a nuclear war, and the inevitable war between man and machine.
Cyberdyne is also a (real) Japanese company, who sells a robot suit called HAL (Hybrid Assistive Limb, not related to HAL 9000). [1] (http://www.cyberdyne.jp/ENG/hal.html)
