Customising Nokia phones
Nokia phones have for many years been at the forefront of phone customisation. All modern Nokia phones have the ability to receive custom ringtones and wallpapers or operator logos. Later GPRS-enabled phones are able to connect to the Internet to download MIDI and image files which can be used to customise the phone.
Hacking Nokia phones
Nokia phones can also be hacked. For example, by pressing *#0000# the firmware version of the phone can be viewed. Also, the unique IMEI number of any GSM phone can be viewed by pressing *#06#. To program a TDMA or CDMA Nokia phone, such as the 1220 or the 51xx and 61xx series, press *#639# and enter the new number. Many nokia phones have a service menu, which enables you to see a lot of information about both the telephone, and the network it's connected to. The service menus of Nokia phones are among the best available. They are usually enabled using data cables and special software; gnokii (http://www.gnokii.org) can do this for many phones.
