Coenobia

Coenobia is the plural of coenobium. It is a colony of cells formed by certain green algae, in which little or no specialization of the cells occurs. The cells are often embedded in a mucilaginous matrix. It is a colony with a fixed number of cells, and may be motile or non-motile.
Examples include Volvox, Pandorina, Scenedesmus, Pediastrum, Hydrodictyon.
