Clifford Husbands

His Excellency Sir Clifford Straughn Husbands, GCMG, KA (born August 5, 1926) is the Governor-General of Barbados. He has held this office since 1996, when he was appointed after the death of Nita Barrow.
Husbands recieved his primary education at Selah Boy's Elementary School in St. Lucy from 1931 to 1936, and secondary education at the Parry School and Harrison College from 1936 to 1946. After leaving Harrison College, he taught at the Parry School for three years before entering the Middle Temple to study law. He qualified as a barrister and was called to the Bar association in 1952. From 1952 to 1960, he held several legal appointments across the Carribean.
In 1968, Husbands was elevated to the dignity of Queen's Counsel. He was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1976
