Christopher John Bryant (born 1962) is a British Labour MP.
A former Church of England priest, author and BBC executive, Chris Bryant became MP for the rock-solid Labour seat of the Rhondda in South Wales, in 2001. Bryant is gay, and Plaid Cymru's campaign against him was accused of being homophobic. Nevertheless Bryant won with a majority of 47.2%.
Bryant is a Christian Socialist, a member of the Co-operative Party (An organisation affiliated to the Labour Party of which he is also a member), the Fabian Society, Amnesty International and the Trade Union MSF. This, and the fact that he starts regular campaigns to help the Rhondda, has made him a very popular local figure.
Bryant is pro-Europe, anti-drugs, strongly against fox hunting and in favour of an elected House of Lords.
He is also the author of several books.
