Chaos Engine

The Chaos Engine is a top-down shoot'em-up computer game developed by the Bitmap Brothers and published by Renegade Software in 1993. It was released for the Amiga (enhanced version available for AGA chipset Amiga's). DOS, SNES (renamed 'Soldiers of Fortune' for USA release), Atari ST, AmigaCD32, RISC OS and Sega Genesis (Soldiers of Fortune) / Megadrive (Chaos Engine).
The player(s) get to choose two mercenaries from a group of six to take on the task of defeating the mad Baron Fortesque and the Chaos device itself. In one-player mode, the computer intelligently controls the second player, so that one never has to fight Chaos alone. The six heroes for hire are the Navvie (cannon), Thug (shotgun), Mercenary (machinegun), Brigand (rifle), Gentleman (pistol), and Preacher (streaming lightning gun).
There are 4 worlds, with 4 levels in each world. The words are "Forest," "Workshops," "Fortesque Mansion" (a haunted house, in a sense), and "Sewers," each with its own dynamic musical score.
Developers included Steve Cargill, Richard Joseph, Simon Knight, Dan Malone, Eric Mathews, Mike Montgomery, Farook Shamsher and Haroon Shamsher.
Chaos Engine 2 appeared in 1996 for Amiga only.
