Central Highlands
|
The Municipality of Central Highlands is a local government area of Tasmania. It covers most of the mountainous centre of the state.
The population of the area is small and quite decentralised, resulting in a large number of small towns - Bothwell, Bronte Park, Derwent Bridge, Ouse, Liawenee, Miena and Tarraleah. Some of these towns were founded as support sites for workers on the hydro-electric dams scattered along the upper Derwent River.
The municipal area has a population of 2,488 (2001 census).

In Central America
Running through the middle of Central America is a string of mountains and volcanoes, known as the Central Highlands. Central America is part of a circle of volcanos that extends up to Japan, through the Pacific Ocean, down to New Zealand, then through the Americas.
The climate in the Central Highlands of Central America is generally cooler and receives much less rain the other regions.
