Carstens Egeberg Borchgrevink (December 1 1864 in Kristiana, Norway — 1934 in Slimdal, Norway), was an explorer, and the first human being to have made a confirmed landing on Antarctica, ever. Although of Norwegian birth, Borchgrevink emigrated to Australia, where he was a lecturer in geography and natural history at the University of Sydney. Subsequently he returned to Norway.
In 1895, Borchgrevink built a hut on Antarctica; this was the first building on Antarctica, ever. As of 2003, the hut still existed, but was being destroyed by penguin guano.
