Carrier Air Group
|
A Carrier Air Group is the allocation of aircraft aboard an aircraft carrier.
Aboard US Navy carriers, a carrier has a set air group, usually consisting of three squadrons of F/A-18 Hornets, one squadron of F-14 Tomcats, one squadron of S-3 Vikings, one flight of E-2 Hawkeyes and one squadron of SH-60 Seahawks. Smaller carriers tend to have what are known as 'Tailored Air Groups'; that is to say that their air group is not set, but tailored for each individual mission.
