Carbon-carbon bond
|
A carbon-carbon bond is a covalent bond between two carbon atoms - a single bond is composed of two electrons, one from each of the two atoms. Carbon atoms can also form double-bonds (composed of two electrons from each atom, making four in total) or triple-bonds (with three electrons from each atom). See also sigma-bonds and pi-bonds under molecular geometry.
There are many ways of making and breaking carbon-carbon bonds.
Synthesis
Following is a list of reactions which form carbon-carbon bonds:
- Aldol reaction
- Addition of a Grignard reagent to a carbonyl group.
- Wittig reaction
