Captain Planet is a fictional character and superhero in the animated series Captain Planet and the Planeteers and The New Adventures of Captain Planet.
Captain Planet was created by Ted Turner in the early 1990's. The idea behind the series was to create an entertaining action program that was meant to make viewers aware of environmental hazards. The villains Captain Planet had to fight included characters such as Sly Sludge, Hoggish Greedly, Dr. Blight, Looten Plunder, Verminous Skumm, and Duke Nukem.
Captain Planet was formed by combining the powers of the rings of the five Planeteers: Earth (Kwame), Fire (Wheeler), Wind (Linka), Water (Gi) and Heart (Ma-Ti)
Captain Planet was the combined powers of all five of the Planeteers' rings, and stood for all that was good and enviroment-friendly. The Captain was sky-blue skinned, with a green mullet and eyebrows. He wore red shorts, a half-shirt and gauntlets with matching red knee-high boots.
Captain Planet had a very impressive array of superpowers: He could fly, had super-strength, super-breath and telekinesis, could change shape, transmute matter, fire energy blasts from his fingers and eyes, read minds and communicate telepathically. His primary weakness was to pollution.
As of 2005, Captain Planet was retired from Cartoon Network. It now airs in the United States on Cartoon Network's sister channel, Boomerang. Captain Planet is the newest show to air on the channel.
